Brother Pass It On began as a mission given to me from the voice of God several years ago while living in Atlanta. God told me to begin a men's ministry. Of course I had no idea of what to do. I began to host Brother P.I.O meetings, the first couple of meetings a few men showed up. Then there meetings where it was just myself and the angels. Frustrated I stopped having Brother P.I.O. meetings.
My bi-weekly barbershop visits in Atlanta is where the mission began. I would come in and sit and talk to the brother's in the shop like normal. At times I would have my bible and biblical and moral discussions would take place.
One Saturday one of the barbers that most people would consider a "thug" asked me a question about a controversial issue within a mega church and it's head pastor. The barber asked me how I felt about the issue and would I leave the church. My answer was not what most people were saying...it was "I would do whatever the Lord told me to do. If it's to stay at the church, give my tithes and offering, and be a faithful member, I would do what the Lord told me to do". I began to speak about Christians being accountable to one another and not throwing stones. I spoke about how we all fall short and just because he is a minister does not mean he is not human. We all make mistakes, we ask God for forgiveness, and hope that our fellow Christians in Christ will help us through our hard times. After giving my answer the barber stated, "man I've been watching you, and your son for a long time. You come in the barber shop and talk to everybody, give advice when needed, and talk about different things I've never heard before" God revealed to me at moment exactly what I was call to do, how I should complete the task and whom I was to serve for his glory. That is a moment I will never forget.
It reminds me of the scripture Matthew 5:14-16, 14- “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15- No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16- In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
From that point I began to give my cards out to all the brothers. We would have prayer holding hands in a circle in front of the shop, have discussions about Christ, and how to become a Christian, and how to be a better man. I began to bring people to Christ by sharing the word of God and some even called me in their desperate hours.
Then the Lord called my family, and I to move back home to Indianapolis, Indiana. I am now continuing the mission that God has called for my life.
